Dan Cammish gutted by early Donington departure

Dan Cammish admitted he was gutted for the whole NAPA Racing UK squad after seeing his Donington Park weekend come to an early end.

Cammish had just set the quickest time in the opening practice session when he suffered sudden brake failure on the run up to McLeans.

Having managed to get the car sideways, Cammish went backwards into the tyre wall at speed, leaving his Ford Focus carrying extensive damage that can’t be repaired at the circuit.

Indeed, it remains to be seen if the car will be able to race again, with the team needing further to carry out further investigation work to determine if repairs are economically viable.

“I have a bit of a sore back but I’m just thankful that I managed to turn the car and went in backwards, as it would have hurt a lot more if I’d gone in head-on,” he said.

“There was no warning at all and it caught me by surprise and it’s a real shame as the car felt really good. At the tyre test, we struggled a bit but we’ve gone from it being fantastic one moment to being in pieces the next.

“I hoped we could still make the top three in the standings but I think that is gone now and it’s a real shame for the team. The car is about two feet shorter than it was and the cage was damaged so it’s weekend over, and we’ll have to see what they can do for the next round.”
