George Gamble heads dry-wet second practice
George Gamble headed the times for Speedworks in the second free practice session at Donington Park, with wet weather once again having an impact on a BTCC weekend.
Gamble set his time in the early stages of the session when circuit conditions were at their best before rain that had started to fall lightly before the start intensified, ending any chance of improvements late on.
The session would end with Gamble just 0.031s ahead of former team-mate Adam Morgan as he put his BMW into second spot, with the top three being completed by the Focus of Dan Rowbottom.
That provided some reason to cheer for the Motorbase squad after Dan Cammish’s weekend-ending accident in the opening session.
Stephen Jelley and Colin Turkington followed behind in their BMWs, with the top six being completed by Aron Taylor-Smith’s Vauxhall.
The changeable weather conditions would lead to a mixed-up order, with points leader Ash Sutton lapping six seconds off the pace back in 18th place and Tom Ingram two spots further back in his Hyundai after it was repaired following his incident in FP1.
Daryl DeLeon caused a late red flag after an off in his Team HARD-run Cupra.
