Tom Ingram smashes Oulton Park lap record to claim BTCC pole

Tom Ingram set a brand-new lap record at Oulton Park to claim pole position for the first of tomorrow’s three British Touring Car Championship races.

The EXCELR8 Motorsport driver was the cream of the crop as he produced a superlative lap to obliterate the existing qualifying lap record around the 2.26-mile circuit, which in-turn allowed him to clinch pole for the third time this year.

Ingram easily progressed into the Quick Six shootout and he laid down a marker of 1:24.194 to the rest of the field, none of whom could beat it. His time shaved off almost half a second from the lap record that was set last year.

Championship leader Ash Sutton delivered another superb performance behind the wheel of his Alliance Racing Ford Focus to secure second on the grid, despite only have one second of hybrid deployment available to use.

Dan Cammish maintained his recent run of front-running form to net third while Tom Chilton, Dan Rowbottom and Adam Morgan completed the top six.

West Surrey Racing’s Jake Hill – who has won four of the last six races in the series – narrowly missed out on making the Quick Six, ultimately settling for seventh ahead of the lead Independent runner Aron Taylor-Smith.

Four-time champion Colin Turkington and Josh Cook completed the top ten, narrowly ahead of Rob Huff and Aiden Moffat.
