Viktor Andersson targets top ten in qualifying

Monlau Motorsport’s Viktor Andersson had a productive Friday in Valencia, leading the first free practice session and finishing tenth in the second ahead of the latest rounds of the TCR World Tour.

“It was a good day, we did a lot of laps, but it was also a warm day,” Andersson told TouringCarTimes.

“We did a three-hour test before in the morning, so we have really learned now about the new layout, I think I know how to drive here.”

The Swede competes with a Cupra Leon VZ TCR, a new car for him this season.

“The feeling in the car is good, we’ve been competitive all day,” he said. “There were different ground plans and different sessions, so that’s why maybe FP2 wasn’t the highest position, but super happy about FP1 and really good stuff before it’s time to qualify.”

Andersson will be scoring points for the TCR Spain too, where he’s the current standings’ leader.

“Also, for me it’s not only the World Tour, but also the TCR Spain, and we have a good position in that championship, but the World Tour is bigger.”

The Swede is cautious but doesn’t feel intimidated about coming to a head with the world class competitors, and believes he could achieve a strong result in qualifying.

“I have competed before against the World Tour guys but they are super good,” he said. “So the goal for Saturday is to be inside the Q2 and in the top ten, let’s see.”
