Santiago Urrutia on historic hat-trick: “Incredible”
Santiago Urrutia became the first driver to complete a hat-trick of victories in the FIA TCR World Tour after winning all three races of the race weekend at Valencia in Spain.
“Winning three races in a weekend is, honestly, incredible,” said Urrutia to TouringCarTimes.
“It puts us in a very good position in the championship, but we’ve only had five races so far, so we’ll have to keep working like this to stay competitive.”
Urrutia started his seventh season for Cyan Racing in world touring cars this year and finished fourth in the drivers’ standings last year as his so far best overall result in world touring cars.
The Uruguayan driver is now leading the FIA TCR World Tour standings, 20 points ahead of team-mate Thed Björk and 29 points ahead of Hyundai rival Mikel Azcona.
“I mean, I have to say I’m really, really happy because it’s hard to be competitive in a world championship,” said Urrutia.
“Sometimes it’s also tough being on your own, far from home, without family or friends, and then coming to a race weekend where the car runs well and everything goes your way.”
Next up for the Geely Preface TCR driver and the rest of the FIA TCR World Tour field is Paul Ricard in France on July 4-5.
“We’re going to have more weights in the next race, as we’re carrying 40 kilos, so we’ve got a lot of work to do. Let’s keep scoring points and see what happens,” said Urrutia.
