Mikel Azcona claims fourth pole of 2026 at Inje Speedium
Mikel Azcona claimed his fourth FIA TCR World Tour pole position of 2026 to head a Hyundai 1-2 with team-mate Norbert Michelisz at Inje Speedium, the home race of the South Korean manufacturer.
The pole also means that the Spaniard has slashed Santiago Urrutia’s points lead to just a single point, with the Uruguayan driver qualifying in fourth place.
And to make things worse for the Geely Cyan Racing driver, an engine change grid penalty means that he will start the first race from 16th place.
Thed Björk was fastest of the Geely Cyan Racing drivers in third place, just 0.036 seconds slower than Michelisz.
Yann Ehrlacher was fifth fastest but will start fourth due to his team-mate’s grid penalty.
Aurélien Comte topped the first qualifying session with a lap time that was faster than Azcona’s pole time. But the SP Competition driver could not repeat the lap in Q2 and had to settle for sixth.
Hyundai driver Junesung Park was fastest of the local drivers in seventh, 0.720 seconds from pole.
Jean-Karl Vernay (Cupra) claimed eighth on his return ahead of Ma Qing Hua (Geely), who is just like Urrutia facing a 12-place grid penalty due to an engine change.
Viktor Andersson claimed the tenth fastest lap time and the Race 2 reversed grid pole position, that is unless Ma sets the fastest lap in Race 1 to gain an extra grid place.
The first race of the weekend starts at 15:30 local time/08:30 CEST.
