Francisco Mora takes second win of the season at Portimao
Reigning champion Francisco Mora won Race 1 at Portimao, host of the second round of the TCR Iberian series.
Mora got his SEAT León TCR ahead of pole man Francisco Abreu, driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, at the start of the 25-minute race. The pair continued battling, with Abreu right behind Mora’s rear bumper for most of the race.
Manuel Giao, in his SEAT León TCR, recovered quickly from eighth on the grid to climb up to third, followed by Faust Salom (SEAT).
The battle remained at the front, with Mora being able to extend his lead to 1.2 seconds with ten minutes to go. However, Abreu wasn’t going to give up, reducing the gap in the closing stages.
At the chequered flag, Francisco Mora took his second victory of the year, followed by Abreu and Giao on the podium.
Faust Salom was fourth and top finisher of the Spanish drivers, with Eduardo Leitao in fifth at the wheel of his SEAT León. Patrick Cunha was sixth with the Audi RS 3 LMS, followed by the SEATs of Edgar Florindo and Pedro Fernandes.
Joao Sousa, with the SEAT León MK2, retired after four laps.
