Viktor Andersson: “The start was the key”

Monlau Motorsport’s Viktor Andersson achieved an important victory in Saturday’s Race 1 in Valencia, to strengthen his dominant position in the TCR Spain championship.

“It was a good race with a good start, which was the key I think, moved up two, three spots already on the opening lap, and was leading TCR Spain after the first corner, so I knew we don’t want to mess it up with the World Tour drivers and lose that great position in Spain,” Andersson told TouringCarTimes.

“But yeah, we were fighting forward, we came the same pace as the World Tour pack.”

The result in Valencia has allowed the Cupra driver to increase his lead in the TCR Spain championship.

“Extending the championship lead in Spain and having a great result with Cupra here at home soil in the world tour is really good.

“P5 in World Tour is my best ever in the series, and to see the people you have watched growing up in front and you can keep up with them and, sometimes, even go past them, is amazing.”

Despite the situation, Andersson prefers focusing on his TCR Spain campaign: “We are on target for Race 2, which I expect to be more messy because of the reverse grid.”
