Niels Langeveld delighted with the first win for Audi in TCR Germany

Niels Langeveld was confirmed as the winner of the second race at Oschersleben in TCR Germany, after the stewards cleared of him blame for the incidents with ADAC Honda’s Steve Kirsch and Engstler’s Florian Thoma, with the Dutchman ecstatic with the result after failing to convert pole to victory on Saturday.

The 29-year-old explained a set-up issue was the cause of his Race 1 drama, fighting to hold on to stay in the points.

While in Race 2, he charged forward, first passing Kirsch’s Honda for second, and then Thoma’s Volkswagen for the lead, but both passes involved contact, with Kirsch’s car left in the gravel trap and with Thoma going wide at Turn 2 and dropping down the order. Following a post-race investigation, both were ruled as racing incidents.

“When I tried to pass Steve Kirsch, he suddenly came to the left when I was already next to him,” explained Langeveld. “Fortunately, I was able to continue the race and the stewards had seen it was not my fault.

“The fight for the lead was super-exciting. Then race leader Florian Thoma went wide in a corner and I immediately steered into the gap he had left open. Thoma came back to the racing line but I was already there and he hit me. Again without any repercussions for me, I was able to take the lead and finish first.”

The next round of the championship is his home race at Zandvoort on 23rd July.
