Harald Proczyk leads SEAT 1-2 in Zandvoort qualifying

Austria’s Harald Proczyk has claimed pole position for the fourth race meeting of the TCR Germany series at the Zandvoort circuit in a tight qualifying session, with the rival SEAT of Mike Halder and the Audi of Jaap van Lagen just over a tenth behind him.

Halder had led the first qualifying group, with the 40-car field split into two at the small Dutch circuit, with Van Lagen fastest in the second group, with the Dutchman making a one-off appearance with the Bas Koeten Racing team this weekend.

Points leader Josh Files only just made the top-six cut-off in Qualifying Group A to get into Q2, but the Target Competition driver struggled for pace in Q2, finishing eighth, the second-best of the Hondas, with Fugel Motorsport’s Steve Kirsch in fifth.

Antti Buri, returning after missing the last race as he joined Hyundai’s development programme at Mugello, set the early pace in Q2 in his LMS Audi RS 3 LMS, but was soon outpaced by Van Lagen’s Audi, before the two SEATs of Mike Halder and then Harald Proczyk jumped to the top of the time sheets, with Proczyk’s time of 1:46.644 enough to secure him pole position for this afternoon’s race.

Luca Engstler was the best-placed of the Volkswagen drivers in sixth in his Engstler Motorsport entry, while Sheldon van der Linde has secured pole for the reversed grid second race tomorrow after setting the tenth-fastest time in his PROsport Performance Audi RS 3.

The first race is scheduled for 15:15 CET today.
