Mike Halder claims claims hard-fought pole position at Nurburgring
Mike Halder took pole position for tomorrow’s race at the Nurburgring, Germany. The SEAT driver will start alongside Audi’s Niels Lagenveld, with championship leader Josh Files in third in his Honda Civic TCR.
The Brit had led the way in the group B qualifying session, closely challenged by stable-mate Steve Kirsch, but both were unable to replicate the lap times they had set in the first session. Halder improved by one tenth compared to the first session, which was enough to give him pole position by as little as 0.042s over Lagenveld. Files was third, less than one tenth off the pace, and will start alongside Opel’s Dino Calcum.
Audi’s Sandro Kaibach will start fifth in his Aust Motorsport RS 3 LMS, sharing the third row with HP Racing’s Harald Proczyk in the SEAT. Steve Kirsch slipped down to seventh despite a strong showing in the first segment of qualifying, the Honda Team ADAC Sachsen driver starting alongside Audi’s Sheldon van der Linde. Antti Buri will start ninth in his LMS Racing Audi, with Max Hofer completing the top ten in another RS 3 LMS.
The top eight of the session were covered by three tenths of a second, which promises for an exciting first race of the weekend, starting at 12:00 CET tomorrow.
