Luca Engstler takes pole position at Sachsenring

Volkswagen’s Luca Engstler took pole position in today’s qualifying at Sachsenring. The German teenager will start ahead of HP Racing’s Harald Proczyk, with Sheldon van der Linde in third in his Audi. Championship leader Josh Files went no further than eleventh in his Honda Civic TCR.

Moritz Oestreich was fourth for Honda Team ADAC Sachsen, ahead of SEAT’s Alex Morgan and Honda’s Steve Kirsch. Mike Halder will start from seventh hin his SEAT ahead of LMS Racing’s Antti Buri. Tim Zimmermann finished ninth in his Target Competition Audi RS 3 LMS, with team-mate Kris Richard completing the top ten in his Honda.

Josh Files struggled for the entire session, the defending champion emerging faster than SEAT’s Pascal Eberle. Title rival Proczyk had also looked like he was in trouble until a last-gasp lap put him on the front row.

Race 1 will start tomorrow at 12:00 local time.
