Luca Engstler hands fourth place to Josh Files after post-race penalty

Volkswagen’s Luca Engstler picked up a time penalty, which was awarded to him after the race as the stewards deemed him guilty of pushing Honda’s Steve Kirsch out of the track on the second lap, an incident which also caused a safety car period.

The German teenager had 30 seconds added to his race time, meaning he is now classified down in 19th place. As a result championship leader Josh Files finished fourth, which gives him an extra three points. The Honda driver’s advantage over title rival Mike Halder is up to 74 points.

The Brit, who will start the second race of the weekend from pole position, will have to take 11 points more than the SEAT driver if he is to clinch his second TCR Germany title.
