Tom Ingram keeps his counsel on Rob Huff clash
Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram left Silverstone as the top points scorer of the weekend with an extended lead in the independents’ standings, while offering a diplomatic response to the final race clash with Rob Huff which cost him the chance of an even bigger haul.
Ingram won the first race of the day from second on the grid ahead of Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff, before the roles were reversed in the second encounter as Goff led home the Toyota.
Ingram was also in the hunt for a final race win until his battle with Power Maxed Racing’s Huff on lap 14, which saw the 2012 WTCC champion put up a robust defence into Becketts and leave Ingram on the grass.
Nevertheless, Ingram was happy with a weekend which netted him 52 points and put him 31 points ahead of Goff in the independents’ standings.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Ingram said: “I’m very happy to come out of the weekend in really good shape. First, second and fourth – you can’t be too pissed off with that, and it puts us in the best shape possible to being in the mix at Brands Hatch.
“It’s been really good, and I’m hopeful we will also be strong at Brands.”
Addressing the battle with Huff, Ingram added: “It was rather robust. From my side we had the obvious advantage with the standard tyre at that point of the race. I was able to close down on the back of him and get away from [Adam] Morgan and the guys behind us.
“He made a little mistake out of Copse, I seized my opportunity and he didn’t make my life easy for me, shall we say.”
