Mat’o Homola back in expanded entry TCR Middle East series for 2018

Slovakian driver Mat’o Homola will be back in the TCR Middle East series, with at least ten drivers confirmed so far for the sophomore season of the championship’s opening round, with the first round in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

The 23-year-old will be part of a five-car entry by Italian touring car outfit Pit Lane Competizioni, which will also field cars for the Altoè brothers Giovanni and Giacomo, Italian driver Alberto Vescovi, and Spaniard Jordi Oriola.

Last year, Homola started the series driving for Engstler Motorsport, then in a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

This weekend, he’ll race a DSG-equipped Golf for Pit Lane Competizioni, with the team opting to run the Volkswagen-Audi Group’s Direct-Shift Gearbox system in its combination of Audi RS 3s and Volkswagen Golfs.

Engstler Motorsport will field a trio of cars for Florian Thoma, Luca Engstler and Kai Jordan, all running with the sequential gearbox system, but will likely run with additional Balance of Performance weight as a result.

Slovakian driver Martin Ryba has also been confirmed for the event, racing a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for Brutal Fish Racing.

In the only SEAT León TCR will be Greek driver Costas Papantonis, driving for the Mouhritsa Racing Team.
