Mike Halder claims pole for TCR Germany season opener

Team Honda ADAC Sachsen driver Mike Halder claimed pole position for the TCR Germany season opener on a wet Oschersleben in Germany. The Honda driver claimed pole by close to six tenths of a second ahead of Team Engstler driver Florian Thoma in the tricky conditions.

Benjamin Leucther of Max Kruse Racing made it two Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR race cars in the top three, four tenths further behind Thoma.

Opel driver Harald Prozyk was fourth fastest for HP Racing International, just over 1.7 seconds from pole position.

Pole sitter Halder’s team-mate Dominik Fugel made it two Hondas in the top five, two seconds behind.

Luke Wankmüller claimed position six in his Opel Astra TCR, with Simon Reicher as the top Audi driver in seventh and Niels Langeveld rounding off the top eight, also driving an Audi RS 3 LMS.

Luca Engstler will start the second race from pole position due to the reversed grid rules as he qualified tenth in the final Q2 session behind Finnish LMS Racing driver Antti Buri who was fastest in the Q1 session.

The first race of the weekend starts at 11:55 CET tomorrow.
