Antti Buri beats Mike Halder to victory in the first race at Most

Antti Buri claimed his first TCR Germany victory of 2018 in the first race of the weekend at Most in the Czech Republic, beating pole sitter Mike Halder.

The LMS Racing driver started second but was able to get past Team Honda ADAC Sachsen driver Halder on the opening lap.

The two were close throughout the race but Buri was able to keep ahead despite two safety car sessions.

HP Racing International driver Harald Proczyk was a distant third, crossing the line six seconds behind the leading duo in his Opel Astra TCR.

Simon Reicher crossed the line in fourth position for YACO Racing ahead of Petr Fulin in fifth who was recovering from a mistake after the final safety car restart, going briefly off track.

Luca Engstler claimed sixth position for Engstler Motorsport, driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, ahead of Max Hesse in seventh, driving an Audi RS 3 LMS, while Oliver Holdener rounded off the top eight as the top Cupra driver.

The final safety car session was caused by Engstler Motorsport driver Theo Coicaud coming to a halt on a dangerous spot at the exit of one corner due to a technical issue. Cupra driver J.C. Reynolds came very close to hitting Coicaud at high speed, but managed to avoid the stranded Volkswagen by going through the gravel trap.

The second race of the weekend starts at 11:45 CET tomorrow.
