Niels Langeveld claims Red Bull Ring pole as Audi dominate

Niels Langeveld claimed pole position for the TCR Germany races at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, a wet qualifying session dominated by Audi drivers, claiming the top three positions.

The Racing One driver claimed pole by 0.123 seconds ahead of Finnish manufacturer colleague Antti Buri, who was fastest in Q1, of LMS Racing while Max Hesse of PROsport Performance secured third position a mere 0.046 seconds further behind.

Fastest non-Audi driver was Team Honda ADAC Sachsen driver Mike Halder in fourth position, just over two tenths of a second from pole.

Championship leader Harald Proczyk placed his HP Racing International-prepared Opel Astra on fifth position on the grid ahead of the top Volkswagen driver in the form of Benjamin Leucther, who had one of his times deleted due to exceeding track limits at Turn 1, just 0.069 seconds further behind.

Luke Wankmüller was the second fastest Opel driver in seventh position ahead of Peugeot driver Lukas Niedertscheider who claimed position eight.

Luca Engstler, currently placed second in the championship, was ninth fastest for Team Engstler while Sandro Kaibach rounded off the top ten for PROsport Performance. The Audi driver will start from the reversed grid pole position in the second race.

The first race of the weekend in Austria starts at 11:55 CET tomorrow.
