Dominik Fugel wins red-flagged Nürburgring second race

Team Honda ADAC Sachsen’s Dominik Fugel won the second race of the weekend at the Nürburgring. The German, who started third, took the lead at the start from reversed-grid pole sitter Luke Wankmüller and never looked back, finishing ahead of Max Kruse Racing’s Benjamin Leuchter and Race 1 winner Mike Halder.

The race was red-flagged with six minutes to go after HP Racing International’s Daniel Davidovac went off in his Opel Astra TCR and crashed hard into the wall, causing a safety car period which was then turned into a red flag.

Halder provided a good show as he cut through the field in the first three laps after having started from tenth due to the reversed grid. The championship contender was able to get to third quite soon, but Leuchter managed to fend him off for the rest of the race, despite the Honda driver’s better pace.

Wankmüller finished fourth in his Opel Astra TCR ahead of HP International team-mate Harald Proczyk. Luca Engstler was sixth in his Hyundai Team Engstler i30 N TCR, ahead of Max Hesse’s Audi RS 3 LMS and Theo Coicaud. Oliver Holdener was ninth in his Wolf-Power Cupra TCR, with Michelle Halder completing the top ten.

Proczyk leads the championship, 10 points ahead of Niels Langeveld, who lost the lead he had conquered yesterday. Engstler and Halder are now 21 and 29 points off the lead respectively. Action will resume at Zandvoort on August, 19th.
