Racing One sign youngster René Kircher

The Racing One team has announced the signing of teenage racer René Kircher for the 2019 ADAC TCR Germany series season.

The 18-year-old makes the step up to the series having finished eighth in the Clio Cup Central Europe last year and becomes the first driver confirmed with the team – which came close to the title last year with Niels Langeveld.

Kircher will be at the wheel of an Audi RS 3 LMS with his sights set on trying to challenge for the rookie title in his maiden campaign.

“I’ve set myself the goal to fight for the front positions and win the rookie title,” he said. “The experience of Racing One and its record in past years make me confident and strengthen my will to do everything for this goal.”

Kircher has already had chance to test with the team, where he worked alongside Langeveld and Benjamin Leuchter; both of whom step up to WTCR for 2019.

“The lap times were fine, but we were most impressed with how calm the boy is and how analytically he approaches everything,” team principal Martin Kohlhaas said.

“Together with our team sponsor Hella Pagid Brake Systems, we opted for René after a couple of days of testing with two of our former drivers competing in the WTCR this season; Benni Leuchter and Niels Langeveld. We are currently working to find out who we will put alongside René.”
