Andreas Wernersson takes points lead with Knutstorp Race 2 win

Andreas Wernersson has claimed the championship lead after taking victory in the second race of the weekend, while PWR Racing endured a difficult race, with Robert Dahlgren given a penalty for driving standards, and Race 1 winner Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky eliminated early on.

Rain began to fall ahead of the race, with all cars again starting on Yokohama wet tyres, with the exception of Experion Racing’s Albin Wärnelöv, who was starting eighth on the grid.

The Brink Motorsport Audi RS 3 LMS of Hannes Morin started from pole, with Wernersson alongside, and while Wernersson bogged down slightly at the start, he was able to make his way through to the lead at Turn 2, with Morin dropped to second, with Dahlgren holding onto third ahead of Tobias Brink’s Audi.

Brink however was soon under attack from Andreas Ahlberg in the Micke Kågered Racing Volkswagen, who managed to get past when Brink hit the rear of Dahlgren’s car at the end of lap one, allowing Ahlberg a good run up to Turn 1.

On lap four, Brink was under attack by Åhlin-Kottulinsky’s Cupra, but the two made contact at Hårnålen, with her car left in the gravel and the safety car deployed.

At this point, Mattias Andersson opted to pit and switch to slick tyres from seventh in his MA:GP Honda, but found himself half a lap behind when the race resumed.

The race restarted on lap eight, with Dahlgren passing Morin’s Audi at Turn 2 with slight contact, with Ahlberg following him through into third.

Dahlgren now began to close on race leader Wernersson’s Audi, but the race was suspended behind the safety car again on lap 12 when Louise Frost ended her race in the gravel trap in the Insight Racing Alfa Romeo.

It was at this point it was confirmed Dahlgren would have ten seconds added to his time for driving standards.

The race resumed with five laps to go, but Wernersson held off Dahlgren to the finish, but Dahlgren’s penalty dropped him to sixth in the final order.

Andreas Ahlberg therefore finished second with team-mate Tomas Engström third, marking a championship-best result for Micke Kågered Racing.

Mattias Andersson’s inspired switch to slicks was rewarded with fourth place, while Tobias Brink finished in fifth ahead of Dahlgren and Morin, while late offs for Peter ‘Poker’ Wallenberg and Albin Wärnelöv saw them finish far off the pace.

The result means Wernersson leads the standings on 36 points, two clear of Ahlberg, with Åhlin-Kottulinsky demoted to third on 30 points heading to the next round at Anderstorp on June 2nd.
