Jessica Bäckman joins Anderstorp field with Target Competition

Jessica Bäckman will be back racing in Scandinavia this weekend, as she makes Hyundai’s Swedish racing debut, with Target Competition fielding her i30 N TCR at Anderstorp.

The 21-year-old finished on the podium at Hockenheim in the latest round of the TCR Europe Touring Car Series on Sunday, and will back in action for a third consecutive week, now rejoining the TCR Scandinavia championship grid for a one-off appearance, bringing the Anderstorp entry up to 14 cars.

Bäckman will be the only Hyundai on the track, which will provide a unique challenge for the Boden-based racer, who usually races as part of a five-car strong programme for the Italian Target Competition squad, who will also be making their Swedish racing debut this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to Anderstorp. It’s all been very last-minute, I didn’t really expect to be driving this weekend, but I’m very happy to be racing in Sweden again,” said Bäckman to TouringCarTimes.

“It will be exciting to see how the car performs at this track. I think the Hyundai will suit a Swedish track better than the Volkswagen I was racing last year. However, we only have two practice sessions to get everything set-up, and it’s the first time the team have raced in Sweden as well, but I’ll try and get some good speed in order to qualify well.

“It’ll also be tough as I’m the only Hyundai, so any set-up changes we want to try can only go on one car, mine! so it’ll be an interesting challenge.”
