Tobias Brink hails successful weekend for Brink Motorsport

The Brink Motorsport team scored three podiums between drivers Andreas Wernersson and Tobias Brink at Anderstorp, with the Eslöv-based team extending its lead in the teams’ championship, with both drivers just four points behind Robert Dahlgren in the drivers’ standings.

Brink launched from fifth to third in Race 1, passing both Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky’s Cupra and Mattias Andersson’s Honda in one move on lap one, and followed team-mate Wernersson home, while in Race 2, a similar strong start saw him pass Tomas Engström’s Volkswagen and Jessica Bäckman’s Hyundai to move up to second, scoring key points in the championship.

“Both my moves were the gamechangers for me in the races,” said Brink to TouringCarTimes.

“I was disappointed after qualifying – we had a problem with the driveshaft, but the mechanics did a great job to get the car ready for Q2, so we had to be happy with P5.

“After that, I knew my starts were essential this weekend. Coming out after Andreas (Wernersson) after Turn 3 in Race 1 was just the start I needed – and we had the same pace so it was just a matter of riding along and taking P3.

“In Race 2 it was the same – I was able to take Engström early, and the move on Jessica was scary, but successful – I thought we’d have the win there as we were quicker than Andreas (Ahlberg) over the first laps, but he had speed over the race.”

Brink Motorsport now leads the teams’ standings by 17 points over the much fancied reigning champions PWR Racing after two rounds, with Brink asserting the team’s goal is to win both titles.

“We have a clear goal. We want to win both the teams’ and drivers’ championships. This is our third year in the series, and we feel our time is now. We’re leading the teams’ championship, and the drivers’ championship is so close, so we have all the possibilities there.”
