Robert Dahlgren: “Our lap was just too safe”

Robert Dahlgren has said the strategy today didn’t pay off, with the driver from Skellefteå failing to take pole position at home despite leading every session up to qualifying in his PWR Racing Cupra TCR.

Dahlgren had to settle for second after a last-minute improvement from Andreas Wernersson saw the Brink Motorsport driver snatch pole position.

“That was not even close to plan, it was very strange,” said Dahlgren to TouringCarTimes.

“With the margin we’ve had today, we thought we’d play it a little bit safe and make sure we didn’t make any mistakes and do one shot, and then apparently we had time to do two – we thought we didn’t have time to go out again, but if you change tyres really fast, you have.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Dahlgren’s hopeful of clawing back a victory from his championship rival, who’s now just three points behind him.

“We have very good pace, over laps as well not just over one qualifying lap and that feels good, but it’s still a bummer not to take pole after our pace today,” he said.

“They did good work as a team, Wernersson and the whole Brink team, they did a better job in Q2 than we did.”
