Andreas Wernersson back in the points lead after fantastic fight with Dahlgren

Andreas Wernersson has taken his first Race 1 victory at Skellefteå , holding off the PWR Racing Cupra of Robert Dahlgren, with the two drivers putting on a battle royale on the final lap.

After holding off Dahlgren for the first ten laps of the race, Wernersson was passed by Dahlgren in the first sector of the final lap after light contact, with Wernersson then blasting back past Dahlgren at the hairpin, forcing the Cupra driver out wide, with the two making contact on the turn in.

Then in the final sequence, an error by Wernersson allowed Dahlgren to come back at him, and the two shot up to the finish line side-by-side, with Wernersson taking the victory by a whisker.

“It was a tough couple of laps there, especially the last one,” said Wernersson to TouringCarTimes.

“He overtook me at Turn 6 after he gave me a push at Turn 5 and I lost my balance. So I was quite mad and I was pretty tough (at the hairpin). I talked to him afterwards and apologised for it, but also told him he hadn’t been fair to me, and he agreed.

“I was actually pretty nervous after that, and I made a small mistake in the last corner and he came back at me once again, and he was drag racing me up to the finish line. It was a little too tight that race, next time it’ll be better to just hold him back.”

Wernersson’s victory puts him back in the lead of the drivers’ championship by four points, while Brink Motorsport have now extended their lead to 25 points in the teams’ title going into the evening’s finale.

“It’s the first Race 1 for me in TCR or STCC, so that’s one target ticked, and 25 points in the championship so I’m now in the lead and we start fourth in the next race, so we have a good chance of getting some more good points.”
