Andreas Wernersson battles back to third after brake drama in Race 2

Andreas Wernersson slipped to second in the championship, six points adrift of PWR Racing driver Robert Dahlgren following the races at Skellefteå, after a brake issue in the final race meant he was unable to resume his epic Race 1 battle with the Cupra driver.

Wernersson was very late to the pit lane after his Brink Motorsport team discovered a brake issue just ahead of the evening’s race.

Although the team tried to resolve it, a long brake pedal at Turn 7 saw the Audi driver career off the track and rejoin dead last.

Wernersson would battle back to third, benefitting from the various squabbles ahead, but despite applying pressure to the second-placed PWR Racing Cupra TCR of Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky in the final laps, he was unable to go any further than third.

“We discovered the brakes had a leak in the system near Race 2,” explained Wernersson to TouringCarTimes.

“We tried to fix it, but unfortunately we still had some air in the brake system, and the first really hard braking zone at Turn 7 there were no brakes at all. I had to take the escape road and lost every position.

Wernersson battled on despite the brake issue, pumping the brake after every corner, and did well to recover to finish third.

“I had some luck with some other competitors crashing into each other and I was in the right places at the right time,” he added. “I had pretty good speed, so it was sad that I couldn’t give Dahlgren a fight.”
