Robert Dahlgren “gobsmacked” after handing his home fans victory

Robert Dahlgren said he was thrilled to have handed his home town a local racer victory at Skellefteå, when the PWR Racing drove through to win the first race, after delivering a fantastic battle with Andreas Wernersson in Race 1.

The Cupra driver just missed out on victory in the first race by 0.022 seconds, and led the last lap between Turn 6 and the hairpin, before Wernersson in the Brink Motorsport Audi dived back past him in one the toughest battles seen on track so far this season.

In Race 2, Dahlgren quickly picked off Andreas Ahlberg’s Volkswagen at the start, Mattias Andersson’s Honda at Turn 2, and then Hannes Morin’s Audi at the final corner to take the lead after one lap, and then went on to win the race, finishing two seconds ahead of team-mate Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, who also fought her way through the field.

Dahlgren’s victory was watched by 16,700 attending fans, a record number for a TCR Scandinavia championship event this year.

“We started off the weekend fantastic, and we had a middle phase where we didn’t do the job properly in qualifying, but to end the weekend like this in front of this crowd, I’m gobsmacked,” said Dahlgren to TouringCarTimes

“The car I had yesterday and today was always quick enough to do the job, and the race win feels awesome.

“I was reeling Wernersson in Race 1 and I knew this was just going to be a cracking race. I think we were both a little bit on or maybe over the limit; he pushed me quite hard, but I pushed him as well, as touring car racing should be.

“It’s great to have given this amazing crowd such a show.”
