Andreas Wernersson’s pole challenge hampered after his rear window falls out

Brink Motorsport’s Andreas Wernersson was unable to follow up on his pole lap from Skellefteå last month at Falkenberg, despite improved pace in qualifying from the Brink Audis, after his window fell out on his fast lap.

The Audi team had opted not to run any new tyres in practice, which hid their true pace until qualifying, when they emerged as a real threat to the PWR Racing Cupra TCRs for pole position.

Wernersson was on a fast lap when the rear window in his Audi RS 3 LMS came loose, forcing him to abort and settle for sixth, which gives him pole position for the reversed grid Race 2 on Sunday.

“You’re always happy with a pole, but we didn’t score any championship points so we’ve lost five to Robert (Dahlgren),” said Wernersson to TouringCarTimes.

“We have the reversed grid so that’s good, and I think we have pretty good speed. I set the best sector one in Q2, but then I lost my rear window in a fast corner, and I had to back off the throttle; so maybe, we could have finished a little bit higher.

“Tomorrow, we’re going to try to score as much as we can. Luckily with the BoP (Balance of Performance) change we were able to take 20kg out yesterday, but as we’ve seen all weekend, the (PWR cars) are quicker than us and everybody else.”
