Mat’o Homola given grid penalty for Maxime Potty clash

Mat’o Homola will serve a five-place grid penalty at the next round of the TCR Europe Touring Car Series in Barcelona, after the Target Competition Hyundai driver was found responsible for an incident with the WRT Volkswagen of Maxime Potty.

The two drivers made contact on lap five, with Potty spun into the barriers and rejoining at the back of the field, while Homola himself soon stopped with an electrical problem.

Homola laid the blame at Potty’s door, but the stewards’ disagreed, giving him a grid penalty for the next round in Spain.

“He just didn’t leave me any room, and he turned into me and I didn’t know what to do,” said Homola to TouringCarTimes. “He should have left me some space as he knew that I was there.”

The stewards have also completed an investigation into the contact between the two rival Hyundai drivers Luca Engstler and Nelson Panciatici, and ruled that no action is required.
