Tobias Brink escapes technical penalty after tough qualifying
Tobias Brink will keep his pole position for tomorrow’s second race at Karlskoga, despite a lengthy post-qualifying enquiry by the scrutineers when his Audi RS 3 LMS appeared to fail the ride height test.
Brink qualified in sixth place, the fastest of the Audis in the wet and tricky conditions, which crucially hands the 29-year-old pole position for Race 2, giving him the opportunity to reclaim some ground against PWR Racing’s Robert Dahlgren, who will start the first race from pole position in his Cupra TCR.
With a number of cars running off the circuit in the standing water and the heavy rain, Brink’s car was one of many to take damage. It was investigated and confirmed that Brink’s car only failed the ride height test due to damaged body work at the affected corner of the car, and so his sixth place was allowed to stand.
Had Brink’s times been disallowed, it would have handed the Race 2 pole position to his Brink Motorsport team-mate Andreas Wernersson, who is 18 points further ahead of him in the standings and just 14 points behind points leader Robert Dahlgren.
