Andreas Ahlberg calls his Karlskoga Race 2 start “perfect”

Kågered Racing’s Andreas Ahlberg picked up a pair of podiums at Karlskoga, and remains in close contention for the drivers’ title in the unfavoured Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, scoring big points thanks to a perfect launch in the second race from fourth on the grid.

The Anderstorp race winner has remained a dark horse in the standings all year, running against the giants PWR Racing and Brink Motorsport, and is just 24 points behind Dahlgren in the standings heading into the final two race weekends of the year.

“I made a good start in the first race, but the second one was fricking perfect,” said Ahlberg to TouringCarTimes.

“I don’t think that’s ever happened before; and it was important to make a good launch especially when I saw the accident behind me.”

Ahlberg then challenged Tobias Brink’s Audi RS 3 LMS throughout, but was unable to find a way past, as he was also having to keep behind Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky’s PWR Racing Cupra.

“I was a bit disappointed in the middle of the race. I felt I could attack Tobias, but I couldn’t shake Mikaela off, and then in the final few laps the tyres are gone for everyone, so it’s just onto the finish.”

Looking at the points, Ahlberg added:

“It was a solid weekend for us. We made some changes since yesterday and they worked well.

“From the first weekend, we’ve said we are racing for the championship, and sometimes you just have to calm down and race for the points – and I hope this will pay off at the end of the season.”
