Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky continues her podium streak at Karlskoga

Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky was the highest points scorer for the PWR Racing drivers at the Karlskoga race weekend, the scene of her first victory last year, and was pleased with the improved pace the team found for Race 2 which allowed her third podium result in three race weekends.

The 26-year-old qualified fifth on Saturday, and made a spot up at the start to run fourth throughout, pulling away from Tobias Brink’s Audi and keeping with the top three, in a race which saw few moves made for position from anyone.

In the second race, starting from the front row, she lost a position due to a mega-start from the Kågered Racing Volkswagen of Andreas Ahlberg, but was able to chase the Golf driver and race leader Tobias Brink to the finish line, with the team having worked hard on the car’s set-up in between races.

“It feels good to get some points. I didn’t start the weekend off so well, I didn’t have the best feeling in free practice and I was struggling to get P5 in qualifying,” said Åhlin-Kottulinsky to TouringCarTimes.

“In Race 1, I did a really good start and felt OK, but not super-strong – but for Race 2, and the guys and girls did a really good job and now I had a super car. It’s just a shame I made a bad start in Race 2, else I think we could have certainly kept P2, and maybe had a little more, but that’s racing.

“It was really hard to find some chances to overtake. I had some chances in Turn 1, but I couldn’t get close enough, and that’s how it is. I feel happy to have got a lot of points and to have come home with a podium.”
