Tobias Brink emerges as Dahlgren’s chief threat after win #2 of the year

Tobias Brink took his second win of the 2019 TCR Scandinavia championship in style in the second race at the Gelleråsen Arena, and has moved to 15 points behind Robert Dahlgren as a result, with the 29-year-old saying the focus is firmly on to win both titles.

After struggling in qualifying, the Brink Motorsport Audis looked like they would have a troubled race day. Indeed, in Race 1, Brink was still struggling for pace, fighting to hold on to fifth against the Kågered Racing Volkswagen of Tomas Engström.

Starting from pole position for the reversed grid second race, Brink was able to hold on from lights-to-flag, keeping the second of the Kågered Volkswagens, this time Andreas Ahlberg, at bay to claim his second win in two race meetings, launching himself past his own team-mate Andreas Wernersson in the standings.

“This win feels really good,” said Brink to TouringCarTimes.

“We did a good job, and showed the pace is there. It’s just a shame we didn’t have the pace in the rain in quali.

“In the dry, we’re absolutely competitive. Race 2 was quite rough, we had a perfect start, and then had to keep back Andreas Ahlberg, despite him having a 60kg lighter car.”

Focussing on the championship battle, in which both Wernersson and Brink have realistic chances against 2017 champion Dahlgren, and where Brink lead the teams’ standings by 19 points, brink added:

“Me and Andreas (Wernersson) are working very well together, and our objective is to win the teams’ championship, and then the team wants to win the drivers’ championship as well. As the team owner, I don’t care if it’s me or Andreas, but of course as a driver, I want to grab the title.”
