Andreas Ahlberg didn’t expect to be a title contender heading to finale

Andreas Ahlberg heads to the season finale of the 2019 TCR Scandinavia Touring Car Championship season as perhaps a surprise contender for the title, third in the standings in his Kågered Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Ahlberg admits he realises he’s a dark horse for the title, with the Volkswagen driver having had one of the more consistent seasons of any driver, which means he goes to Mantorp Park just 31 points behind points leader Robert Dahlgren.

“To be honest, I didn’t really expect this would happen,” said Ahlberg to TouringCarTimes.

“We’re quite a small team with a very limited budget compared to the top teams – we have had good speed, and after six weekends to be in the fight for the championship, it’s definitely more than I expected.

“Over the whole season, we’ve not had the raw speed to challenge the PWR and the Brink cars, but we’ve been consistent and taken points, P6 is the lowest position we’ve had this year, and we realised if we kept on like this we’d have the chance to challenge for the championship.”
