Andreas Wernersson critical of Mattias Andersson after qualifying
Andreas Wernersson has said Honda driver Mattias Andersson got in his way on his fast lap and ruined the championship contender’s chances of fighting for pole position at Mantorp Park.
Wernersson qualified in sixth, half a second away from pole in his Audi RS 3 LMS, which hands him a useful pole position for the reversed grid Race 2, but means he’s out of position for Race 1.
“I don’t know what he’s doing,” said Wernersson.
“He said he didn’t see me, and I said I drive the same track as you, and I see everybody – so I don’t buy that.
“They told us at the drivers’ briefing this morning, we needed to look behind us when we leave the pits and see if anyone’s on a fast lap, and it was exactly that so I don’t know why he’s not been penalised, as I don’t know why they bother telling us this. So, I’m pretty upset actually.
“I think we had the pace to be fastest, but I made a mistake on my first run, and then Mattias messed up my second run.”
Andersson was unrepentant, and said he had to go flat out on his out lap in order to get in his final run.
“When you’re coming into the first corner and you have 1:30 to the finish you just have to go, and with cold new tyres you can’t go quicker. I tried to be as narrow as possible, I’m sorry for him, but that’s racing.”
