Tobias Brink says pole pace was always there in the Audi

Tobias Brink said he knew the car had good pace, and had flattered to deceive in practice, after the Audi’s true performance wasn’t seen due to old tyres and a brake issue against Robert Dahlgren’s Cupra.

Dahlgren had led the way in both of the practice sessions, but it was Honda’s Mattias Andersson and Audi’s Tobias Brink who jumped ahead in qualifying, with Andersson fastest in Q1, but Brink quickest in Q2.

Brink’s pole was the first of his career in both STCC and the TCR Scandinavia championship, and means he’ll start ahead one place ahead of his championship rival in tomorrow’s first race.

“In the test we were on really old tyres in FP1, and then in FP2 we planned to go with really good tyres but we had some problems with the brakes so we didn’t really put in a lap at all,” said Brink.

“In Q1, we went out in old tyres just to get two more laps in and feel more confident in what we were doing, and Q1 felt good and then in Q2 I felt that the speed was there. I felt good on the first attempt, but I missed up a the F2 corner and so I came directly in for new tyres, and then went out and put it together.”
