Opel squad returns to action at Hockenheim

The Lubner Motorsport team will make a return to TCR Germany this weekend with a pair of Opel Astra TCRs.

Teenager Philipp Welsdorf will make his first outing in a TCR car having previously competed in the Opel Astra OPC Cup, although team-mate Steffen Redlich has previous experience of the car having driven the TCR machine in the DMV NES 500 endurance series.

The team has run the Astra in selected races in TCR Germany since the inaugural season back in 2016 with a single podium finish for Dino Calcum at the Red Bull Ring in 2017 being the best result.

Last season, the team ran Jan Seyffert in an Astra for the opening three rounds before switching to a Lada Vesta.

“We are looking forward to the guest start in the ADAC TCR Germany,” team boss Mirko Lubner said. “We have no expectations of this event in terms of the result.

“Our goal is to do a good job and have fun. Of course, it would be great to drive a car into the top ten in the race but the level in ADAC TCR Germany is very high. Anyone who knows us knows that we will try everything and with patience, a lot is possible for the drivers and the team.

“Everyone is highly motivated and looking forward to the task ahead.”
