Moto2 rider Marcel Schrötter joins Team Engstler for Sachsenring

Moto2 rider Marcel Schrötter is going to drive Team Engstler’s VIP Hyundai i30 N TCR for the TCR Germany championship races at the Sachsenring this weekend.

“I am really happy that I am getting this opportunity from Hyundai Team Engstler,” said Schrötter.

“I’ve always dreamt of taking part in a car race. It will of course be a dip in the deep end. But I’ll do my best.”

The 27-year-old will make his touring car debut this weekend and is racing in the 2020 Moto2 season for Liqui Moly Intact GP, currently placed eleventh overall.

“I’m really excited to see how the car will feel,” said Schrötter.

“It will certainly be unusual not to have direct contact with my elbows and knees on the asphalt, but to sit in a car. The view and braking points are very different than on the bike, but I think I’ll get used to it quickly. So my plan is first of all to chase after my team-mates and learn a lot from me.”

Schrötter will receive support throughout the weekend by Hyundai WTCR racer Luca Engstler.
