PWR Racing boss labels new engine mapping “unbalanced”

PWR Racing boss Daniel Haglöf has voiced concern over the engine mapping that has been introduced for the older Volkswagen group cars [the Audi RS 3 LMS, Cupra TCR and Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR] and the performance difference with the new Cupra.

“I think we have an unfortunate situation,” said Haglöf to TouringCarTimes.

PWR Racing is fielding three new Cupra León Competición race cars in the 2020 STCC TCR Scandinavia season and has made a track comparison between the new car and the older Cupra TCR.

“I think the performance between the old cars and new cars was quite good before,” said Haglöf.

“We tested with our old Cupra at Karlskoga and now I would say it’s very unbalanced. And that’s quite strong words coming from me, I normally don’t comment on these things.

“As we have the spare part support [for the VAG cars in Scandinavia] and provide some additional service to the other teams, we actually updated our competitors’ cars before the race weekend knowing that we wouldn’t be able to compete with them in terms of engine performance.”
