Rob Huff claims superior debut STCC win to points lead

Rob Huff claimed his first STCC TCR Scandinavia victory in the first race of the season finale weekend at Knutstorp, winning the race by more than ten seconds over title rival and pole sitter Robert Dahlgren.

The victory has elevated him to the points lead, three point ahead of title rival Tobias Brink who could only manage seventh position in the wet conditions. Dahlgren is third, four points behind.

Lestrup Racing Team driver Huff out dragged PWR Racing driver Dahlgren at the start from second on the grid and never looked back.

Dahlgren meanwhile lost one place to Huff’s team-mate Oliver Söderström at the exit of the first corner.

Former championship leader Tobias Brink had a tough race, dropping down from fourth position to finish seventh.

The Audi driver held sixth position for a good portion of the race but was unable to withstand an attack from Kågered Racing driver Emil Persson on lap 17.

PWR Racing boss and driver Daniel Haglöf, who stands in for Poker Wallenberg this weekend, was awarded a drive through penalty for unfair driving following contact with Brink, dropping him down to finish 12th.

Dahlgren meanwhile picked up speed as the race progressed, attacking Söderström on lap six to reclaim second position. The PWR Racing driver pulled away from Söderström but was unable to close in on Huff and had to settle for second.

Huff won the race ahead of Dahlgren and Söderström, while Kågered Racing driver Andreas Ahlberg drove a solid race to finish fourth.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR driver came under pressure from Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky at the end of the race, but the PWR Racing driver was unable to get past.

Persson finished sixth ahead of Brink and Hannes Morin.

STCC newcomer Kevin Engman drove an impressive race to finish ninth ahead of Honda Racing Sweden driver Mattias Andersson.

The second race of the Knutstorp weekend starts at 13:30 CEST.
