Harald Procyzk storms to pole for Lausitzring Race 1

TCR Germany championship points leader Harald Proczyk claimed his first pole position of the year with a dominant performance in qualifying at the Lausitzring.

Using the longer configuration for the second visit to the circuit, HP Racing International’s Procyzk headed both segments of qualifying in comfortable fashion, setting a best time of 2:12.396.

This effort in Q2 was over seven-tenths of a second quicker than the nearest challenger, Antti Buri in the Team Engstler Hyundai i30 N TCR.

Procyzk’s team-mate Jan Seyffert will line up third for Race, while TCR Germany newcomer Laura Kraihamer set the eighth-fastest time and will start Race 2 from pole in the Hyundai Team Engstler VIP car.

The 2018 series champion Procyzk, also in a Hyundai i30 N TCR, was a quarter of a second faster than the Team Öttinger Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR of René Kircher after posting a 2:13.775.

Honda driver Dominik Fugel had a slow start to the session, languishing at the bottom of the times for the opening 10 minutes.

The German, who sits second in the points, eventually posted the third quickest time to make it through to Q2, where he ultimately set the fifth fastest time.

Despite his pace in Q1, Kircher could not translate this into overall grid position and will line up ninth for both of the weekend’s races.

Q2 was a flurry of activity as Buri initially had a poor start to the session, setting a time of 2:18.384, a time which was immediately beaten by Albert Legutko’s Honda, Buri, Kraihamer and subsequently Procyzk.

Buri’s second effort was however good enough and it put the Finn second on the grid.

Behind Seyffert in fourth is Gruber, who returns to the series following his World Touring Car Cup wildcard appearance in Hungary.

Dominik Fugel is fifth ahead of brother Marcel, while Legutko starts seventh for Race 1.

Kraihamer impressed with eighth on her first outing in the Hyundai i30 N TCR, and will start Race 2 from pole alongside Legutko.

Kircher and Skuba Racing Team’s Dziguas Tovilavicius completed the top 10.

Race 1 for TCR Germany is scheduled to take place later on today at 13:00 CET.
