Robin Knutsson misses final STCC test after Ljungbyhed crash

STCC newcomer Robin Knutsson will miss the final official pre-season test after a hard crash during the first day of testing at Ljungbyhed Park.

The 19-year-old escaped unharmed but was taken to hospital for a routine check.

“It was a hard hit, but I feel ok and everything looked good at the hospital check-up. A huge thanks to everyone in the rescue staff and the team for their efforts today,” said Knutsson.

The Lestrup Racing Team driver went off track at Turn 6 at well over 100 km/h and struck an earth wall, resulting in damage that was not repairable ahead of the final test day tomorrow.

“We are first and foremost relieved that Robin is unhurt and we’re focusing on getting his car ready for the season start as there is too much damage to get it ready for tomorrow,” said Fredrik Lestrup, team co-owner.

“It’s unfortunate that the test ended prematurely for Robin, especially as this is his STCC debut season. But he showed strong form during the two test days and had to dive from the deep end straight away with pouring rain, mixed conditions and a dry track.”
