Luca Engstler flies to Race 2 pole at Oschersleben

Team Engstler’s Luca Engstler (Hyundai i30 N TCR) claimed the pole position for Race 2 of the Oschersleben season opener after beating his team-mate Martin Andersen in the morning qualifying session.

The session was red-flagged with five and a half minutes to go after a problem for Wimmer Werk Motorsport drivers Peter Gross (Audi RS 3 LMS) and Eric Scalvini (Cupra Leon Competición).

Engstler set a best lap time of 1:30.808, with Andersen in second place, half-a-second behind. Scalvini, who was fastest in the initial stages, was third, a further three-hundredths of a second.

Dominik Fugel, driving a Honda Civic Type-R TCR, continued his solid performance this weekend with fourth place, albeit nine-tenths off the pace.

Team Oettinger’s René Kircher (Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR) qualified in fifth, ahead of Team Fugel’s Marcel Fugel. Robin Jahr, driving a Hyundai i30 N TCR from ROJA Motorsport, was next ahead of Jonas Karklys.

Patrick Sing finished ninth with his Hyundai i30 N TCR, ahead of Philipp Regensperger (Opel Astra TCR) who completed the top ten.

Engstler has extended his championship lead to 12 points over Dominik Fugel.

The start of Race 2 is scheduled for 14:10 CEST today.
