Brink bounces back to win third Skellefteå race as Dahlgren scores 100th podium

Tobias Brink managed to bounce back from a nightmare start to the STCC TCR Scandinavia weekend at Skellefteå Drivecenter Arena to win the third and final race in torrential conditions.

Championship leader Robert Dahlgren performed an impressive charge from eighth on the grid to finish second in the pouring rain, scoring his 100th career STCC podium finish.

Kågered Racing driver Andreas Ahlberg started from the reversed grid pole position and claimed the lead ahead of a fast-starting Brink who gained one position at the start from third on the grid.

Ahlberg was only able to keep the lead for three laps until Brink made his move to get past.

Brink’s team-mate Hannes Morin followed suit a lap later to snatch second place from the Volkswagen driver.

Cupra driver Dahlgren was making up ground fast and had climbed to third position at the end of lap five.

Morin soon came under pressure from Dahlgren and made a mistake on lap seven, allowing Dahlgren past into second place.

The final lap saw privateer Cupra driver Rasmus Hedberg completely missing his braking point at the hairpin, striking Lestrup Racing Team driver Mikael Karlsson hard from behind.

Both drivers retired on the spot, with Karlsson being taken to hospital for a routine check up after the race.

Dahlgren was closing in fast on Brink at the end of the race but could not get close enough. Brink won the race close to three seconds ahead of Brink, who had his Brink Motorsport team-mate Morin behind him in third.

Pole sitter Ahlberg finished fourth ahead of Oliver Söderström and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky. Volkswagen driver Hugo Nerman and Hyundai driver Albin Wärnelöv rounded off the top eight.

Dahlgren heads the standings on 122 points, 39 ahead of Brink and 41 points ahead of Lynk & Co driver Mattias Andersson who could only manage ninth in this race.

The STCC field heads into its summer break now, returning to action on August 21-22 at Gelleråsen Arena.
