Mikel Azcona claims pole position for Super Final A

Zengo Motorsport X driver Mikel Azcona claimed pole position for Sunday’s PURE ETCR Super Final A at Motorland Aragón.

Azcona was first on track, completing a lap with a time of 1:58.514.

Augusto Farfus was next, driving the repaired Hyundai Veloster N ETCR after Jean-Karl Vernay’s driveshaft issue in the Round 2 battle, finishing 0.750 seconds behind Azcona.

Next on the track was Rodrigo Baptista of Romeo Ferraris, completing his flying lap a full 1.624 seconds off the pace.

Jordi Gené took to the track with the Cupra e-Racer of Zengo Motorsport, completing his flying lap 2.336 seconds slower than Azcona.

Tom Chilton followed next in the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR, finishing the lap 3.414 seconds from pole.

Alfa Romeo driver Stefano Coletti was the last driver to take for the track in the Time Trial A, completing his lap 2.472 seconds slower than Azcona to finish fifth.

Azcona said after the time trial: “I’m super happy for what we have achieved this weekend, and very proud of my team and team-mates. Starting on pole position in the Superfinal is really great.”

“It was a good lap, not outstanding, because this attempt was more about getting it all together,” said Farfus after finishing in second place. “The team had a hard work after Jean-Karl’s problem with the driveshaft but now everything is ready.”

The Super Final A is scheduled for Sunday morning at 09:45 CEST.
