Kevin Engman claims emotional maiden STCC win in final Gelleråsen race
Kevin Engman claimed his maiden STCC TCR Scandinavia win in the final race of the Gelleråsen Arena weekend, heading a Brink Motorsport 1-2 with Tobias Brink.
Brink started from the reversed grid pole position but made a slow start, with Engman claiming the lead into Turn 1 ahead of Hugo Nerman and Brink.
Disaster struck for Lestrup Racing Team driver Oliver Söderström who stalled and dropped back to the rear of the field.
Albin Wärnelöv and Rasmus Hedberg made contact at Turn 2 of the first lap, sending Hedberg into the gravel. Hedberg was able to rejoin to finish 13th and last.
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky made strong progress in the race, climbing from seventh on the grid to finish third, completing her so far best STCC weekend with a podium finish in all three races.
Kågered Racing driver Hugo Nerman was involved in the top fight initially but made a mistake at Turn 1 towards the end of the race, losing two positions to Brink and Åhlin-Kottulinsky.
Audi driver Engman won the race 1.2 seconds ahead of Brink, with Cupra driver Åhlin-Kottulinsky completing the podium.
Nerman finished fourth ahead of championship leader Robert Dahlgren who climbed from eighth to fifth.
Lestrup Racing Team driver Robin Knutsson crossed the line in sixth ahead of Andersson and Söderström.
Dahlgren heads team-mate Åhlin-Kottulinsky in the standings on 178 and 129 points respectively. Brink is third, 61 points behind Dahlgren.
The next STCC race takes place at Anderstorp on September 4-5.
