Robert Dahlgren secures STCC title with tenth win of 2021

Robert Dahlgren claimed the 2021 STCC TCR Scandinavia title (his third) after winning the second race of the Mantorp Park weekend, becoming one of just four drivers with more than two titles.

The PWR Racing driver started second but was able to claim the lead from pole sitter Andreas Bäckman into the first corner, controlling the race from then on on the drying track.

Bäckman had a disastrous race again as he was relegated down to sixth place after a slow start. The Brink Motorsport driver was able to fight back up to fifth, only to make a mistake on lap five, beaching his Audi deep in the gravel at the Mjölby corner.

The off brought the safety car out while his Audi RS 3 LMS was cleared.

Dahlgren’s team-mate Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, who is placed second overall, had to finish third or higher in order to keep the title hopes alive.

But the Cupra driver was unable to make ground and finished the race in fifth position.

Oliver Söderström made a strong start and finished second behind Dahlgren, with Mattias Andersson once again fighting his way up through the field to finish third from fifth on the grid.

Tobias Brink finished fourth and is just six points behind Åhlin-Kottulinsky, who finished fifth, in the fight for second place in the championship.

Hugo Nerman of Kågered Racing rounded off the top six, close to eight seconds from race winner Dahlgren.

The third and final race of the Mantorp Park weekend starts at 15:29 CEST.
