Water pump issue marred Franco Girolami’s qualifying at Barcelona

PSS Racing Team driver Franco Girolami will start both races at Barcelona from the back of the grid due to a water pump issue, meaning a huge blow to his title hopes.

The Argentinian driver had posted the sixth fastest lap time that was deleted because of track limits, with the technical issues then starting.

“We had set a lap time but, because of track limits and the rules that the last and current lap are deleted, we didn’t have a valid lap time,” PSS Racing Team manager Alexander Todorovski told TouringCarTimes.

“Then Franco had a water pump belt problem as it came out of place, and we couldn’t repair it in time, so bad luck for us, we start both races from the back of the grid.

“We will go for everything and I’m sure we will put on a good show,” added Todorovski.

The team also confirmed that the issue has been resolved and that Girolami will be at the grid for Saturday’s Race 1 at 15:40.
