Luca Engstler proud over first TCR Germany title after “nerve-racking” last race

Luca Engstler claimed the 2021 TCR Germany title in the last race of the penultimate race weekend at Hockenheim, a race the Hyundai driver described as “nerve-racking”.

“It was a nerve-racking race for me, but we claimed the title and I am more than happy,” said Engstler.

The Team Engstler driver won the first race from pole but was involved in an incident at the start of the second race, dropping back and had to fight his way up to finish fourth.

As his WTCR programme is clashing with the TCR Germany season finale, Engstler was under pressure to secure the title this weekend.

“I had a very good start but with a small hit I was falling back to P10. But I recovered to P4 which was enough to secure the title a weekend before the end,” said Engstler.

“I am massively proud to score my seventh title in TCR, it’s been a great season and I’ve enjoyed it a lot.”

The title is Engstler’s seventh TCR title, a list that includes the 2018 TCR Middle East title, the 2018 and 2019 TCR Asia titles and most recently the 2020 TCR Malaysia title.
