Target Competition plans three-car return to TCR Europe

Target Competition is planning to return to TCR Europe this season with a three-car programme after two years away from the series.

The Italian outfit, which claimed the 2019 TCR Europe title with Josh Files, ran two Hyundais in the WTCR last year for siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman until the mid-point of the season.

A full-season WTCR entry for 2022 is not on the table, although selected wild card outings are a possibility.

“Our plan is to return in the TCR Europe series with a minimum of three entries and we only have one target, to bring back the title,” said team manager Andreas Gummerer to TouringCarTimes.

“At the moment we are not planning to participate full season in the FIA WTCR. Still, we are looking into wild card entries as we believe in the championship and like the very high level of competition.”

The team will continue with its Hyundai Elantra N TCRs for 2022, starting its fifth year with the Korean manufacturer.

“We will stick with Hyundai Motorsport and the Elantra N TCR, as we are now partners for five years and had some important successes together,” said Gummerer.

The team will also continue its TCR Italy programme this year on the back of a successful 2021 season where Antti Buri claimed the title.

Details regarding drivers for 2022 are yet to be disclosed.
